Auditions for "Of Mice and Men" Scheduled to Be Oct. 2
The Music and Theatre Department at 91¿ì²¥ will
hold auditions for its fall production, âOf Mice and Men,â at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct.
2. Auditions will be in the theatre of the Judge William H. Inman Humanities Complex.
Actors should be prepared to perform a short dramatic monologues and cold
readings from the script.
Auditions are open to community members. You do not have to be a student
to be part of the play.
This is the first local production by Jack Truman, instructor of theatre
and the new director at 91¿ì²¥ 91¿ì²¥. He chose the John Steinbeck classic has important
messages for students today.
âThe play is set 100 years ago,â Truman said. âThings are much different
now, but it is important that we remember.â
âOf Mice and Menâ is set in the great depression and follows two migrant
ranchers traveling California looking for work. The original play featured 9 men and
1 woman, but Truman is willing to flip some parts.
âWe want the best actors and actresses for these parts. In Steinbeckâs
time, ranching was really considered manâs work. Today, women own and work on ranches.â
âOf Mice and Menâ will be produced Nov. 10-12 and Nov. 17-19.
Truman has spent 35 years in the entertainment industry, including stage,
film and television. His credits include appearances on âMurder She Wrote,â âWest
Wing,â and âWhile You Were Sleeping.â Truman is an independent filmmaker, with his
productions screened at over 600 festivals. He holds a masterâs degree in fine arts
from Minnesota 91¿ì²¥ University and a bachelorâs degree in business from Missouri
Southern 91¿ì²¥ University. He has received training in improve from the Groundlings.
He is the founder of the Holly Weird Film Festival, which continues in Los Angeles.
